2020 has taken many turns that no one has expected. If someone would have told you four months ago that a pandemic would hit the world and life as we know it would come to a stop, would you have believed them? What if someone told you that you would have to stay at home to protect yourself, wear a mask when you leave the house, and not know when life would go back to normal again. What would you say?
2020 for many people is so much more than the things above. For many, this pandemic has meant being laid off, working overtime, or having a graduation and wedding postponed or cancelled. Things that are completely out of our control. How can you move on from something that was taken from you and changed your life forever, especially when there is no one to blame for the pain?
Allowing yourself to embrace the sadness, anger, or any emotion you feel is important. It is hard to move on when you aren’t letting yourself grieve what you have lost and the changes going on around you. This grieving process does not have a time limit on how long it will take to find peace within yourself. After all, how can you come out of a sad situation if you haven’t come to terms with the truth? The truth for us in 2020 is that we are living history which will be discussed as a devastating year.
The healing process will not happen overnight. I hope that one day soon, this heartbreak will turn into healing and we will be able to look back on this time knowing that everything happened for a reason.
Remember that you deserve the peace that will come from being able to move on and close this chapter in your life. While it is hard to come to terms with what life is throwing at us, and may seem like this chapter is never ending, you have people who believe in you and will cheer you on, no matter what happens. And if you feel like you don’t, know that I believe in you. We may not have met, but I know everyone is capable of great things when they put their mind to it.
Picture your life a year from now. Even five years from now. You will look back on this time and know that while it was a big bump in the road, you came out stronger than ever. During times of uncertainty, it is hard to find the positives in the frustrating present day that we are all living through. But one day, you’ll look back, hopefully with a smile, and find that closure you needed occurred over time, without you even noticing you were healing.
